NEWSLETTER: Term 4 Week 7 – 26 November 2015

Dear Parents

At the moment teachers are finishing off their reports, Jane Cameron and Anne Bridgman are collating achievement data, I am finalising appraisals and budgets, interviewing for new teachers, enrolling five year olds, reviewing the Annual plan as well as a myriad of other tasks which crop up on a daily basis. We are all thinking about next year.

But before we get ahead of ourselves and leap into the new year, we have a group of people who work in our school who work tirelessly in their roles, not often receiving public praise for what they do. However, none of us would be able to do our jobs if they weren’t right there beside us. We need to acknowledge the huge part they play in contributing to our great school.

Many of the teacher aides are finishing shortly. They are the most amazing people, working tirelessly with many children across all year levels. These children need support with their learning, or their English or their behaviour but the one thing I never hear from any of them, is a complaint about a child. Sometimes, they are in situations which may be stressful, but they always put the needs of the child first and work with teachers and outside agencies to try to get the best possible outcomes for students.

Children enjoy having our teacher aides working with them. They are valued people and when they come into a classroom, both children and teachers are delighted to have them in the room making a difference to the children’s learning. We all know that they make our job so much easier and we appreciate them.

Another group of people in the school who rarely get a mention are the administrative staff. Kinzsa and Linley in the office, Gabs and Joanne our accountants, Jenny our uniform shop manager, Jane our librarian and Helen who helps out in the library. We all know that the school would not even function without them! They are wonderful with their dedication to helping our children and parents in so many ways.

Another team of valued staff members are Michael and Michael (or Michael and young Michael as we call them), our property manager and assistant caretaker. They keep everything ticking over, attend to disasters like blocked toilets and generally ensure that the school looks great and functions smoothly.

Thank you to all of you for working together with the teaching staff, helping our children and parents with all their needs, worries and issues and for generally being fun to be around!

Kind regards

Janice Adamson

 Teachers Leaving

I mentioned above that we were interviewing for new teachers. Yes some of our lovely teachers are moving on to new horizons, a couple of them are literally moving to new horizons! Esther McEwan is off to Christchurch and Sarah Carpenter is off to Dubai. Hannah Aikman is off to Dio (an ex Dio girl herself!) and Lauren O’Sullivan is leaving too. We have filled three of the positions with fantastic people. I am searching for a fantastic person for year 6 and have just re advertised because I want someone amazing! I will introduce our new staff in the last newsletter of the year.

 Room 19 – 21 Outdoor Development Update

Oh dear, this drags on and on! I did say in week 7, term 4 last year that this will happen, just not overnight. Well, we have the concept for the classrooms and outdoor area. We have drainage reports and engineer’s reports on the way. Next step is the board ratifying the concept then drawings being submitted to council for building consent and then we are underway with the actual build. The time frame which was originally starting in January has been pushed out to later in term 1. I will keep you posted.
