Newsletter: Term 4 Week 5 – 14 November 2019

Dear Parents,

Last night the VAS choir were part of the APPA Music Festival held at the town hall. Many of you may remember participating in this event when you were a child, I did and I still remember the joy of performing in a mass choir in front of an audience.

Our children did us proud. As always, their behaviour was exemplary and from where I sat, it looked like all of them were singing their hearts out; it was wonderful. A group of our children performed a dance during one of the massed choir songs and they were just delightful.

It was such a great performance, and as well as me being proud, all the parents, friends and families who watched the show were too!

Wednesday 20 Novemberschool closes at 2pm, conferences from 2.20pm – 6.00pm
Thursday 21 November  – conferences from 3.20pm – 5pm

Booking details are below.

2020 Classes

If you wish us to take any information into consideration as we form classes, please email me. It may be a request to separate your child from another child. Please note that we do not accept any requests for specific teachers. Please email your thoughts by 22 November, unfortunately requests sent in after this date will not be actioned. It is also almost impossible to make any changes once all families have been notified about the class their child will be in for 2020, so please email me early.

Chaos at the School Gate

I continue to hear about and witness horror driving and inconsiderate parking outside the school. I am constantly needing to soothe our neighbours who are quite rightly very annoyed at people parking across their driveways. Recently, I heard about one parent who thought others may think her a bad parent if she didn’t go to the classroom to collect her child. She said she would prefer for her child to walk up Victoria Ave and wait in a spot to be picked up, a spot where she could easily park.

Let me say that you would be the best kind of parent to let your child walk to meet you. Not only would you be releasing yourself from the stress of trying to find a park right outside school, you would be encouraging independence and responsibility in your child. I am sure you could find a spot between the school and Ingram road so your child wouldn’t need to cross any roads. How about trying that? Might reduce your stress levels.

Carol Service at the Cathedral 10 December

The carol service held at the cathedral is a lovely tradition which has been part of the VAS culture for years. Sadly though, this lovely tradition is becoming more and more expensive. We used to hire the cathedral at a reduced rate but for the past three years we have been charged market rate, which is a few thousand dollars. Yes, a few thousand! We have relied on parent koha collected at the door, but this has dwindled to the point that less than $1000 was collected last year. In order to continue to have the carol service, we would love parents to help us out through being generous in contributing at the door. It was mooted that we have an eftpos machine but somehow that didn’t seem right. I’m sure you want to continue this tradition, so we would really appreciate your cash contribution on the night. Oh dear, commercialism hits all aspects of our lives!

Kind regards
Janice
