Dear Parents & Caregivers,
I went to the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night and delivered my ‘Principal’s Report’. I was impressed with the dedication of a really important group of parents, who are responsible for the governance of our wonderful school. What really impressed me the most was how much they care about the education of our students and want the best conditions for them to thrive. It is a serious business being a board member and certainly I didn’t realise the amount of work they did. But I assure you all that you have chosen the group well.
Who are they – I hear you ask? Well, John Thorman (Chairman), Martin Cooper, Tim Larkin, Kathryn Alward, Craig Cunningham and Ilona Lumborg (teacher’s representative).
So on behalf of the VAS community I would like to thank you for your service to our school.
I would also like to acknowledge The Friends team who ran a very successful Halloween Disco last Friday. Thanks to Rozy Williamson who overall organised the event. Also Rebecca Doole, Kerrie Gregory, Kristin Williams, Asher Williams, Petra Bebbington, Hannah Williams, Kylie Hotham, Alex Van Son, Marei Chaney, Wendy Burgess, Brigitte McGregor-Macdonald, Alexander and Michelle Green, Amy Weston, Greer Pasupati, Amanda Deller, Georgie Hall, Clare Crosby, Jen Van Epps, Sharlene Bravo-Morello, Susannah Barratt-Boyes, Kerry Martin, Llori Valenzuela, Mikael Uggla, Jeff Valenzuela, Amanda Dick, Meg Tan, Ye Jin Kim, Christiane Sullivan and Maneesh Deva who all helped . Special mention to Allecia Swale who isn’t even a parent just a very supportive Godmother!
Ka pai tō mah!

Learning in Year 3
This term’s PBL topic for the Year 3’s is the Stone Age. Where did everything start for humans? We have researched prehistoric animals through our writing of information reports and Room 15 made some 3D woolly mammoth models.
We have also looked at stone age shelters. We have been building mini models using natural materials we found around the school. The children worked collaboratively and were very engaged with the practical tasks.
Up next we will learn about tools, hunters and cave paintings. We know that they will enjoy working towards the surprise project at the end of our stone age topic.
When a student is to be absent from school, please notify the school by 9.15am by using the Report Absence Button on the homepage of the website or through the VAS School App. Alternatively you can call 520 0602 to advise. Children arriving late to school must check in at the office. When children leaving during school hours a parent must sign the child out at the office. As we have a “safe to school” policy any unexplained absences will be contacted by phone if time permits.
