Dear Parents,
Welcome back to a very busy term. If you were able to enjoy a holiday with your children, I hope it was very relaxing. For those of you who still had to work, I hope you enjoyed the break from the school lunches / drop off / pick up routine!
This term is short (9 weeks), will be very busy and will go by very quickly, so be prepared! So, what do we have to look forward to?
- First two weeks children will be undertaking a whole raft of testing so the teachers can report achievement to parents in the end of year report as well as use the data for looking at achievement against National Standards

Further information about each of these events will be sent home at the time.
This term we collect food, treats and quality gifts for the Auckland City Mission. You will get a reminder later in the term. Remember to keep an eye out for emails and notifications on the app about events as well as ‘like’ us on Facebook to get reminders and information.
Sunsmart
As we move into the warmer weather it is important that all children have their hats every day and we strongly encourage children to apply sunscreen daily. We have small tubes of sunscreen which cost $5, on sale at the office and they are also on sale beside the iceblock sales each Friday.
Uniform Reminder
I know that a number of the Year 6 students are rapidly outgrowing their uniforms but it would be great if they didn’t wear random t-shirts and long sleeved t-shirts underneath their uniform. I do like our children to look smart!
Dragon Drive and the Teachers’ Carpark
Please, please remind your children that they must come into school down the dragon drive and not the driveway to the teachers’ carpark. I know that many of you come with your children down that driveway but we really do discourage children from using it. It is all about safety as the footpath is very narrow and there is no footpath in the passing bay in the middle.
Kind regards
Janice Adamson

The trials will be held at Bill McKinlay Park.
These trials are for all existing players who wish to represent Uni Mount AFC and thus continue working with Top Flight Football Academy in 2018. These trials are also for any new players who would like to join us in 2018. In instances where we have enough boys for 2 teams we will announce the squad for that grade and then decide on the Inspire and Contender teams before the start of the 2018 season.
We will continue with the current training routine till the end of this year. That means next year’s 9th grade (YOB 2009) will continue to train with the Kickstarters Group on a Thursday afternoon and join the morning group at the start of the 2018 training year. The 2005 boys, who move to 13th grade as of next season will continue to train on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Our normal training routine will resume in the second week of the 4th term and the last day of training for 2017 will be on Friday December 15.
If you have any questions regarding the trials please let me know.

‘BAGS FOR GOOD NEIGHBOURHOOD’ COMMUNITY CHOICE PARTNER
The school has been selected by The Warehouse to participate in a Community Choice Programme that provides financial support to not-for-profit community groups and organisations. A fund is raised through their customers purchasing a 10cent shopping bag in return for a token, which is then placed in a voting booth (or forgo the bag). At the end of a 6-month period the fund is divided among 3 participating partners based on their percentage of tokens, with the VAS share being put towards much-needed refurbishment of outdoor playground equipment. The VAS voting booth is situated at The Warehouse store in Newmarket and the period runs from August 2017 until January 2018. Please spread the word among friends and family!
If you know of any other loyalty schemes and grants that can benefit the school, please contact Amanda Dick on [email protected]
ASB Supporting Success in Your School
Due to the success to date of the ‘Supporting Success in Your School’ scheme ASB will continue to support Victoria Avenue School with the School Sponsorship Voucher until 30 July 2018. The school is awarded a $500 voucher for each customer that mentions VAS and this offer when taking out lending of $250,000 or more (see voucher for further terms). This offer is available to friends and family of the school community as well as parents and teachers. A copy of the voucher is available to download at the ASB website:
