NEWSLETTER: Term 3 Week 5 – 25 August 2016

Dear Parents

This is the week of the performances of ‘Ratbag’. The senior children have all been working very hard to learn their speaking parts, songs and dance moves. Alison Laxon, our music teacher extraordinaire, has been the lynchpin behind this production ably supported by class teachers.

I went to the performance last night and was blown away by the quality of the performance, but more so by the abilities shown by so many of our students. Productions like this are a wonderful way for children to shine. Many times they are children who may not necessarily shine academically, but are creative and artistic. The production is a vehicle for them to use their talents and to gain the recognition for these talents. These children may or may not have major parts, but when I was watching last night, there were children on the stage, not necessarily in the front row of the chorus, whose performances were compelling and my eyes were drawn to them. They had the ‘X’ factor!

Productions like this need the support of so many people. As well as our fantastic Alison Laxon and class teachers Amy McGuire, Victoria Taylor, Sara Burrowes, Cara Bridgland, Jen Noone and Paul Rattenbury, we have had an army of parents who have made costumes, painted scenery, applied makeup and supervised very excited children.

Thank you to everyone involved, but a special thanks to all our wonderful children for putting on such a fantastic, polished performance. (See photos below).
