Newsletter: Term 3 Week 3 – 8 August 2019

Dear Parents,

It is mid winter and we are in the midst of the cold and flu season and we have also had a tummy bug go through classrooms so there are a number of children absent each day. Apart from illness and trips overseas, the majority of our children are sent to school regularly. Unfortunately though, there are a few children who seem to be very good at talking mum and dad into letting them stay home from school and the tummy pains they swear they are having miraculously disappear as soon as they are allowed to stay home! However, I am sure you can understand how miserable they feel if they are sent to school sick and end up in sick bay, so it would be great if you could keep them home.

I thought you might be interested in the following table which shows the effect of letting your child stay home from school regularly and even occasionally:

Dance Programme

Ezra from Dance Curriculum loved being at VAS and it seemed to me that the children loved having him teach dance. The two concerts were well received by parents and it was great to see parents busting the moves with their children.

Kind Regards
Janice Adamson

Bay & Remuera Lit Quiz

The Lit Quiz is an annual literature competition, in which teams of four students work together to answer questions from an assigned list of books. Our year 5 and 6 teams both did very well, the year 5 team came second place overall.

Year 6 team – Bella Innes, Annabelle Judd, George Clausen and Nicholas Weston.

Year 5 team – Willow Reid, Harrison Wong, Zac Hood and Olivia Halliday.

  • This year, you only need to decorate yourself, not your table. Bring your best 90s flair!

  •  Feel free to get 10 friends together and purchase 10 tickets otherwise we will try to put you with parents who are in a similar year group

  • Absolutely no alcohol or food to be bought on the premises, bag searches will be conducted.

Last week, rooms 4 & 5 raised $412 towards the school’s forest project. Thanks to those parents and the whole school for supporting.

Tomorrow, Friday 9th August we are having our KidsCan Mufti day. The theme is crazy hair mufti, can kids please bring a gold coin.

SPCA mufti day

We raised $691 from the mufti day last term. This has been donated to the SPCA, thanks for your support.

Epipen School Offer from one of our Parents:  $135 including delivery to school – $5 donated to school for each delivery!

As a mum and a pharmacist I understand that epipens can be expensive. I can personally deliver your epipen (which is temperature sensitive) to the school office. This ensures the medication is not exposed to temperature fluctuations within the courier van and saves you time and hassle. We provide the latest expiry dating and we can tell you the current one when contacting us. Deliveries will be done on a weekly basis during school term. Discount available for 2 or more pens. With more than 15 years of teaching experience, LeeAnna has taught ballet to students from over 15 different countries. She studied classical ballet for the majority of her life in the United States, and has taught at international schools in Switzerland and in Myanmar (Burma).

These After-school Ballet classes will be a fun introduction to formal ballet training. Children will learn ballet terminology, movements, and fundamental positions with an emphasis on improving body awareness and coordination. Ensuring that students receive individual attention within the group setting will be important during classes.

Ballet attire is encouraged: leotard, tights, ballet slippers, and (optional) skirt.
Mostly importantly, students should wear clothing that is flexible and allows for comfortable movement.

Cost: $220 for Term 3

**Children enroling after the first class (25/7) will have an adjusted class fee
