The long winter is almost over, hopefully we will get some spring weather during the holiday break. Many of the children are very tired and ready for a break from routine. I am sure the same applies to many parents, and even if you can’t take time off from work, at least you won’t have the pressure of getting your children to and from school on time and the roads are going to be so much clearer than term time.
We have achieved so much this term. Children have enjoyed their topics based around the overarching theme of Culture and Community. It was great to go into the year 3 classrooms this morning and see the children share their learning with parents and grandparents. What I loved about this was that the children shared not only their knowledge, but also showed deeper understanding and use of inquiry skills.
I am looking forward to watching the juniors share their learning in the arts; dancing and art, with their parents and grandparents. It was lovely to welcome the Pacific Mamas into the junior classrooms. As I write this, I am watching Constable Gordon teaching the children scooter safety on the courts.
Other highlights of the term have been the music concert, the cross country and the seniors winter field day. The mathathon has been a great success, not only for the fundraising aspect, but also for the emphasis on maths basic facts.
Thanks to all of you who have helped in the school this term. We value and appreciate your support as parent help in the classrooms, accompanying children on trips and at sport events, hosting morning teas for new parents, counting money, baking for our very popular bake sales, the list goes on!
Enjoy the break, don’t race your children here, there and everywhere. Give them time to chill out and relax at home, playing games with their brothers and sister or friends. Next term is action packed (which term isn’t) so they need resting up so they can hit the ground running on day one.

Being a Guide with GirlGuiding NZ is a very popular choice for girls aged 9 to 12.5 years and it is great to be able to offer the opportunity to more girls to join our unit in Newmarket on Thursday evenings.
Guiding is about learning, developing self-confidence, making new friends and, of course, having lots of fun outside school!
Our programmes are provided in a fun, safe environment and Guides get together each week with girls their own age to do lots of cool stuff like outdoor adventure, camping, sports, playing fun games and taking part in community action projects – all challenging the girls to achieve their personal goals.
