BIBLE IN SCHOOLS ~ LUNCHTIME PROGRAMME
Bible in Schools
We are continuing to offer Bible at a new time of 12.45 – 1.15pm each Thursday lunchtime for the last 5 weeks of each term. This is now part of our lunchtime activities programme and is open to all children from year 0 to year 6.
This new programme is called ‘Champions’ and has been developed by the Churches Education Council (CEC) to meet the needs of today’s schools. It is a new way of delivering what has traditionally been known as Bible in Schools. The programme aims to help teach children values through delivering a fun programme that is relevant to their lives. For further information see Linley Garrett who has their brochure.
Don’t miss the biggest night on the VAS Social Calendar!
SWIM LEAGUE
Congratulations to the two VAS teams who competed in the first round of Swim League at Cameron Pool on Saturday 14th May. VAS teams took first and second place! It sure was noisy and loads of fun … the swimmers and supporters had a great time.
Our next competition is on May 28th at Cameron Pool, 2pm. We appreciate all the cheering from our supporters, if you’re able to come along it would be terrific to have you there! It is a seriously fast, furious and fun competition…an exciting 45 minutes of swimming.
If your child would like to join the swim team for term 3, please email Kim at [email protected]
A Chance to Change a Boy’s Life
Endeavour Scholarship for Year 7, 2017
Buchanan Charitable Foundation Scholarship for Year 5, 2017
We are now seeking applications for 2017 for four places for the Endeavour Scholarship and one place for the Buchanan Charitable Foundation Scholarship.
The Endeavour Scholarship was launched by the Governor-General of New Zealand in October 2001 which is now in its 15th year and the Buchanan Charitable Foundation Scholarship which is now in its fourth year.
The Endeavour Scholarship is open to Maori and Pasifika boys who are currently in Year 6 at their present schools, for Year 7, 2017.
The Endeavour Scholarship provides opportunities for four boys each year to receive an education at King’s School for their Year 7 and Year 8 years. The boys spend their intermediate years at King’s School and are then re-assessed to see whether they qualify to move on to King’s College for their secondary education. Their education at King’s College is also paid by this scholarship should they be successful.
This scholarship is a financial scholarship which includes tuition fees, uniform allowance and other costs. The level of parental contribution is independently assessed and based on the current financial position of the parents.
The Buchanan Charitable Foundation Scholarship is for one boy of any ethnic descent but who could not normally afford an independent school education. This scholarship is for a boy currently in Year 4 and pays the fees for his Year 5 – 8 years at King’s School and then onto King’s College. This scholarship is conservatively valued at $180,000.
Further details and application forms for both scholarships can be found on our website (www.kings.school.nz). Alternatively please call Kirsty Higgs on Phone: 520-7774.
The following are the details with respect to the Endeavour Scholarship application process this year.
- Application papers are currently available for downloading from our school website
- Applications close 9th August 2016;
- Examinations will take place on Tuesday, 16th August 2016 at King’s School;
- Assessments and interviews for short-listed boys will take place end of August.
We certainly hope you will be able to identify students that you can recommend for these programmes.
