Welcome back, the holidays were great, the weather was great, the traffic was great! We are all back into work mode and looking ahead.
I always work with each year level team as they plan their inquiry for the term. This term, teachers have planned their term 2 topics around enterprise and creativity. We are all looking at enterprise, not as an avenue to make something to sell, but looking to the community needs and identifying a way we can use our creativity and newly learned enterprise skill to help. I am excited by some of the ventures being planned.
There is lots planned for this term:
- Aniel Smith has planned an indepth swimming programme for all levels. We did this a couple of years ago and it was most successful. Further information will be sent home nearer to the time.
- Year 5 children are very excited about their planned camp at Long Bay which is happening in week 3.
- Grandparents’ day is on Friday 8 June.
- Getwise financial sessions
- Give a Kid a Blanket mufti day
As we go into the term a reminder that we do not tolerate bullying, but we can’t act on it if we don’t know about it! Remember that bullying is systematic targeting of one child by another / group of others and of course the bullies are never going to do it in front of adults. We need your help, so let us know if your child has issues and we will deal with it immediately.
It is going to be a busy but exciting term, so keep reading the emails sent out, keep up to date using the VAS app, read the newsletter through our website and we always have some hard copies of the newsletter on the counter in reception.
Emails to Teachers
A plea for parents to email the office with messages for their child, not the class teacher as they do not access emails during teaching and learning time, so they may miss something important. Please also remember that emails don’t take the place of parent interviews. Please keep emails brief and think about the frequency of your emails. If you have an issue you would like to talk to the teacher about, please do not fire off an angry email. We are all more than willing to help parents with any concerns but being human, we get very stressed when we receive a confrontational email. If you have a question about your child’s learning, progress or achievement, or any issue, please make a time to talk face to face with your child’s teacher.
As we move into the cooler months, please remember to ensure that any socks or tights that you buy are plain black, white or navy. If your child likes to wear a skivvy under their t shirt, it also needs to be white or navy. Remember that our uniform is now interchangeable and that girls may wear long pants or shorts as well as the navy polos. Go to the School Shop on the website for the uniform options.
