Newsletter: Term 1 Week 2 – 12 February 2018

The Meet the Teacher evening is on tomorrow night at 7pm in the hall.
PTS – What will this look like going forward? Bring your great thoughts and ideas to ‘post’ in mailboxes tomorrow night at Meet the Teachers.
Then on Thursday, come along to the staffroom at 6pm and together we will map the way forward for our PTS. All welcome (don’t worry, you won’t be signed up to run an event!)
Kind regards
Janice Adamson

Music Groups 2018

2018 promises to be another great year for music at VAS.

Ukulele – (Years 2-6) If your child would like to be part of the Ukulele group please email me with your child’s name and room number. By the end of February I would like to have the group finalised so we can start.

Band – (Years 4-6) If your child plays an instrument and would like to join our school band, please either email me or get them to add their name to the list – via the shared document in their Google account (“Band Sign-Up Sheet 2018”) or on the paper version outside the library.

Once I know the make-up of the group I can then organise the music and we can start. I would appreciate knowing this before the end of February.

Choir – (Years 5-6) Currently, auditions are taking place for Choir. Auditions happen at lunchtime and are organised by class but any interested senior child can come on any day; we don’t want anyone to miss out! The last audition day is Tuesday 20th February.

Spencer Street Walking School Bus needs YOU!

Come and join us on a pleasant walk from one end of Spencer Street to
the other. We walk daily from the corner of Spencer/Glenbrook Street
to the school steps. It doesn’t take more then 10 minutes and you don’t
need to fight for drop of space.

This is a great way for kids to learn road safety and have some
morning fresh air or make new friends :)
All it requires is a commitment by one parent or nanny/au pair to join
the roster and walk with the children one morning per week.
If you commute or are a new family in the area or know of any VAS children
moving to the area, please get in touch with Fabian ([email protected] or 021-1147626) to
find out more about joining in.

Loose Parts Lunches (aka The Creative Shed)

Do you love seeing children – be creative, use their imaginations, be inventive, stimulate conversation, learn social skills, learn negotiation and compromise, practise problem solving, make new friends?
Here are some examples in action –

Would you like to be a part of providing opportunity to allow that to happen?
Have you got an hour or so to spare in the middle of the day?
Then we need you to be a part of the team to re-start loose parts play at lunchtime at VAS.
Due to the building work around the school, we can’t leave the loose parts out all the time as happened in 2017. So rather than deprive the children of an activity they LOVE, we’re hoping to build a team of people to keep the supply and pack up of loose parts manageable and sustainable on an ongoing basis.
Essentially you’d be needed to open the door and supervise access to the parts at the start of lunchtime, keep an eye on the play, and assist with the return and packing away of the resources. Outside of school, we’d be looking to collect up interesting loose parts to add to the collection as needed.
This can only happen if we have a reliable TEAM of people.
Please email Anna [email protected] with your details if you can help. We’ll organise a planning meeting in the near future to get things going.
