The Board held its first meeting of the year on February 27th. The opening roll at the start of the year is 517 students, which is the highest it’s been in a long time; possibly ever.

Property changes

Let’s start with the exciting news; as you will have seen in the Principal’s weekly newsletter, we now have some progress to report with our new and improved playground. This will be a wonderful new installation adjacent to the courts area, comprising a tower and slide, a large swing and a “Supernova” (which is one of those angled roundabouts that you will have seen in other playgrounds).

The nice aspects of this upgrade are firstly that a number of students have been involved in the planning and selection process, and secondly that it is using the hard-earned PTS funds that had been previously earmarked for the MLE upgrade of rooms 19-21. The classroom upgrade has been repeatedly stalled by the wider delays due to subsidence and other building issues. So it’s great that this amount of fundraising is finally being put to a constructive use.

We will still undertake the MLE upgrade of rooms 19-21 once the higher priority projects have been completed by the Ministry.

As you’re aware, the remediation of rooms 15-18 has started over the summer holidays and is continuing through term 1. Detailed planning has begun on the work to address the subsidence issues under rooms 19-21. The school management team is working hard to minimise the disruption to normal classroom learning while this work gets completed.

General Items

We approved the 2018 budget and the 2018 school charter, as is the custom at the first meeting of the year. The charter covers the longer term strategic plans, and the annual plan specific to 2018; this document is on the school’s website for anyone that’s interested in learning more.
