BOT Newsletter February 2016

The Board held its first meeting of the year on February 15th. Welcome back to all returning families and a special welcome to families new to our school this year.

We had a very good turn-out to the Meet the Teacher evening on February 10th, I hope everyone found it informative and enjoyable.

Budget for 2016

The operating and capital budgets for 2016 have been finalised and approved. The key capital expenditure item this year will be the substantial refurbishment of rooms 19-21 into the Interactive Learning Style layout (formerly known as Modern Learning Environment). This project has a budget of $125,000 and this is being paid for out of fund-raising contributions from the school community over the past few years. Note that the additional work in this project of remediating the ground subsidence is being paid by the Ministry of Education as part of our long-term property maintenance funding.

As always, the Board seeks to balance its budget so that the school can offer the broad and rich education that we aspire to for our children, while at the same time keeping the school donation at what we hope is an affordable level. We rely on the full and prompt payment of the school donation to ensure that the school is financially sustainable.

Board of Trustee elections

As advised previously, the triennial elections are due to be held next year, and the election date we have chosen for our school’s election is June 3rd 2016. This is a great time to start considering if you wish to stand for election to contribute to the long term direction of our school. If you have any queries or wish to talk about your potential interest, please contact Bob Weston or any of the other current Board members (see the link to our contact details below).
