The Board held its third meeting of 2020 on 10 August 2020 and our first meeting with Kathryn Alward following Bridget Snelling’s resignation.

The recladding of the administration building should be complete this month and the girls’ toilets have been refurbished.  Boys’ next.

A new car park gate has been ordered to replace the gate damaged by a contractor.

Health & Safety

To date in 2020 the school has had four reportable incidents, three of these due to children falling over.  This is higher than the two reportable incidents in 2019 and slightly above the average for the past eight years of 3.5 per annum.

VAS monitor reportable incidents closely including the reasons for injuries and where they occurred to ensure any trends or areas of concern are addressed.

Health education consultation

At least once every two years schools are required to review the heath education programme at the school. This has been completed with four recommendations for consideration.

The report will sent to parents in a newsletter shortly.

New Principal update

The Gazette advertisement was released online on 24 July and in the Education Gazette on 3 August.  11 August was the last day candidates had available to visit VAS with two Board members showing around those interested in viewing (and applying to) our school.

Applications for the role of the new VAS principal close on 21 August with shortlisting aiming to be completed by Wednesday 2 September.

Between 3 and 9 September the Board hope to be able to visit the schools of the shortlisted candidates with interviews on Saturday and Sunday 12 and 13 September.

The Board aims to select the best candidate following the interviews.

The exact start date of the new principal will depend upon their notice period at their current role and preferred timing.  In the meantime, Jane Cameron has kindly agreed to take the role of Acting Principal.
