Newsletter: Term 2 Week 8 – 22 June 2017

Hi,

In this newsletter I have asked our Year 3 classes to share with you their topic of Inquiry Learning, which is ‘huts’.

The Mad Hutters of Year 3!
This term the Year 3’s have been learning all about huts. We’ve learned about different types of huts and their purposes, as well as the different materials you can use to build huts. There has been a lot of hands-on practise at tying knots, lashing sticks together, and weaving. We started out with blankets and common items of classroom furniture. From there we moved outdoors and the children used ropes, sticks and tarpaulins in all kinds of creative ways to make shelter.
Some of our huts have been full-size, and towards the end of the term we will be making miniature models. This unit has been a great way to access the technology curriculum. It has helped build everyone’s problem-solving skills, as well as communication skills and team work. On Grandparents’ Day we interviewed our grandparents about their experiences making huts and learned it was a popular activity even back in their day!

Kind Regards
Jane Cameron
