Thursday 10th June
Olivia Mortimer
V.A.S gets their head in the game
Victoria Avenue Primary School really gets stuck into the soccer as they do an imitation of the soccer world cup. Physical Ed. Teacher, Clare Whittington has organized a heap of fun and exciting event including Healthy School Week in 2009 and plenty of Cross Country and Athletics events and muc, much more! Each classroom has taken up a different country. On Tuesday the 8th of June was the opening ceremony. Starting off with a parade with Argentina in the lead. Every country chanting until their heads nearly blew off. Once they were all safetly on the soccer pitch Mr. Olly Boman performed some tricks to get the school into the spirit. Afterwards Argentina versed Spain Argentina won 1-0. “This is a great fundraiser for the school” Olivia said with full confidence. “Lets hope that there will be more of these exciting events.” Olivia also said.

Thursday 17th June
On Friday the 11th of June the senior school from Victoria Avenue school went down to shore road field to have their very own Football world cup. Everybody walked down and had marked out fields waiting for them the rules were explained and they were off. six teams were competing and they were Argentina, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, Japan and England. Each team played five games not including the finals. After the five games the six teams were put into either the into the finals, playing for 3rd and 4th or 5th and 6th. In the finals there was Argentina, VS Denmark. 3rd and 4th was Portugal, VS Japan and 5th and 6th was England, VS Spain. The final was very tense and had to go into extra time but still the score was nil all. As everybody got ready for the penalty shoot outs you could tell that both sides were nervous. But this was not the last thing as the score after the penalty shoot out was two all. So each side nominated one player to take one shot first up was Argentina and their shot went through, but Denmark’s shot did not! All of the Argentinian players were jumping for joy! They had won the world cup.
