Introduction

The Board held its fifth meeting of the year on July 31st. We welcomed our Principal Janice Adamson back from her sabbatical of last term, and we’d like to reiterate Janice’s public thanks to her team of Jane Cameron, Anne Bridgman, and indeed all of our wonderful staff members who stepped up to keep the school running extremely smoothly through Term Two.

Selection of a replacement Trustee

We received a large number of high calibre candidates for the vacancy on our Board of Trustees, and we are pleased to announce that we have selected Bridget Snelling as our newest Trustee.

Bridget already has one son at school in Y2, one child to start at school soon and another child on the way. Bridget is qualified as a solicitor, and has had a broad and varied career covering law, PR, communications and marketing across tech and media industries, and more recently in banking.

Thanks to everyone that showed interest in this position.

Requirement for a further Trustee

On the flip side, we are sorry to announce the departure of Michael Holloway from the Board. Michael has resigned due to his high work commitments. Michael joined the Board in late 2015 and we are grateful for his contribution during his time with us.

We therefore have a further vacancy on the Board of Trustees. The Board resolved at its last meeting to fill this vacancy by selection. This means that – provided no more than 10% of our eligible voters object – the Board will select a replacement candidate rather than hold a by-election. A public notice to this effect will be published in the local paper shortly.

Once the statutory period to receive any objections has passed, and assuming there aren’t many objections, the Board will look to make its selection. To that end, if any of you are interested in being considered for the Board please get in touch with Bob Weston (bob.weston@entec.co.nz). In choosing the replacement trustee, we will be particularly focused on the skill set that the person can bring, and how they may fit into our longer-term succession plans. Michael – our departing trustee – held the position of Finance Spokesperson on the Board, and an accounting or finance background will be one factor that we take into account in our selection process.

Nominations for Chairperson of the PTS

As some of you may be aware, Shelley Cunningham is stepping down from the role of PTS Chairperson having served a very successful term over the last 2 years. The PTS is therefore calling for nominations to fill the role commencing at the start of Term 4, 2017.

The role suits someone who is well organised, flexible, motivated, reliable, resilient, a team player and is a passionate advocate about the wellbeing of the children and school. If necessary, Shelley is available for a transitional period to support the new Chairperson as they become familiar with the role.

If you would like to put yourself or somebody else forward for nomination, or require further information, please contact vasptschair@gmail.com. The ballot process will close at the end of Term 3 and the appointment will be formally announced at the first PTS monthly meeting of Term 4.
